Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how HandyReckon (handyreckon.com, "we", "us", or "our"), an independently operated website based in Sri Lanka, handles information when you use our website. The data controller for personal data processed in connection with this site is the operator of HandyReckon, reachable at hello@handyreckon.com.

1. Data we collect by default

HandyReckon does not collect any personal data by default. All calculator and converter tools run entirely in your browser. Input values, results, and any files you open with our tools (such as images) are processed locally on your device and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

One exception by design: the "What Is My IP" tool displays your public IP address back to you. It is shown to you only and is not stored by that tool.

Standard web server access logs may record your IP address and browser user-agent for security and diagnostic purposes. These logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days and are not used for tracking or profiling.

2. Data stored on your device (local storage)

Some features save small amounts of data in your browser's local storage so the site works better for you — for example your light/dark theme preference, your cookie consent choice, and optional drafts you choose to keep (such as an invoice draft in the Invoice Generator). This data stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.

3. Camera and microphone tools

The webcam test and microphone test tools request access to your camera or microphone through your browser's standard permission prompt. The audio and video are used solely to display a live preview or level meter on your own screen. Nothing is recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere. You can deny or revoke the permission at any time in your browser, and the tools stop accessing the device the moment you leave the page.

4. Cookies

This site sets a single first-party cookie (handyreckon_consent) to remember your cookie consent preference. This cookie does not contain personal data and is strictly necessary for operating the consent mechanism.

If you accept optional cookies via the consent bar, the following third-party cookies may be set:

Google AdSense (if enabled): Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google's Ads Settings or aboutads.info. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services in Google's partner sites policy and Google's Privacy Policy.
Google Analytics (if enabled): We use Google Analytics to collect aggregated usage statistics (pages viewed, session duration, approximate location by country) to understand which tools are useful. Data is processed by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Cookie consent bar

On your first visit, a cookie consent banner is displayed. You may accept all cookies or reject optional cookies, and you can change your preference at any time. Non-essential cookies are not set until you give consent. Your preference is stored in the handyreckon_consent cookie for 365 days.

6. Your rights under GDPR (EU/UK)

If you are located in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or UK GDPR:

Right of access — you may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
Right to erasure — you may request deletion of your personal data.
Right to object — you may object to processing of your personal data, including for direct marketing.
Right to data portability — you may request your data in a machine-readable format.
Right to lodge a complaint — you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (for the UK: the ICO; for the EU: your national data protection authority).

7. California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not sell personal information. If you accept optional cookies, third-party advertising cookies may constitute "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law; you can opt out by rejecting optional cookies in the consent bar and via the Google opt-out links in Section 4. California residents may also contact us at the email below to exercise their rights to know or delete.

8. Third-party links

This site may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.

9. Children

HandyReckon is a general-audience website and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
