How It Works
GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated by dividing total quality points by total credit hours attempted.
Step 1: Convert each letter grade to grade points using the 4.0 scale (A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B-=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2.0, C-=1.7, D+=1.3, D=1.0, D-=0.7, F=0.0).
Step 2: Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours to get quality points.
Quality Points = Grade Points × Credit Hours
Step 3: Sum all quality points and all credit hours.
Step 4: Divide total quality points by total credit hours.
GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours
Example: Three courses — Biology (3 credits, B+), English (3 credits, A-), Math (4 credits, A):
Biology: 3.3 × 3 = 9.9 quality points
English: 3.7 × 3 = 11.1 quality points
Math: 4.0 × 4 = 16.0 quality points
Total quality points = 37.0, total credits = 10
GPA = 37.0 ÷ 10 = 3.70
